“The Challenge for Workforce Development ”
The Workforce Development and Planning committee invite you to the 3rd Management Grand Round on Friday 18th November between 2.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. at the Henley Lecture Theatre, across the road from the Grafton site at the University of Auckland.
We are delighted that Professor Debra Humphris (who is Director of the Health Care Innovation Unit at the University of Southampton in England) accepted our request to stop in New Zealand on her way to present in Australia to talk about the challenge for workforce development.
The reform of public services across a range of health and social care systems highlights the need for radical, whole system workforce innovation in the face of demographic, technological and cultural shifts in the wider environment (Department of Health 2001). The provision of effective health and social care services also increasingly reflects the importance of effective team work, collaboration and real role change (Borrill et al. 2000).
The challenge of developing and delivering a workforce that can meet and adapt to the demands of today and the future requires action on many fronts. This presentation will provide an insight into major workforce change projects underway in the University of Southampton, UK, in partnership with the local health and social care economy.
Debra Humphris is Professor of Health Care Development and heads the Health Care Innovation Unit and leads the New Generation Project. Prior to taking up post as Director of the New Generation Project in November 2000 Debra spent two years at the Department of Health, South East Region as a member of the Research & Development team. This followed four years at St Georges Hospital Medical School, London, where she was involved in establishing the Health Care Evaluation Unit. Debra is a member of the Department of Health National Steering Group for Common Learning.
