Rod has over 30 years experience in health and has developed extensive international knowledge of contemporary health systems, health policy and health management. Following his training as a dentist Rod moved into health management in Thames and the Auckland District Health Board and now a Senior Lecturer in Health Management and an Associate of the Centre for Health Services Research and Policy. He recently gained his PhD from the Faculty of Medicine in the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia
